ELLSWORTH — The Stroud Fund of St. Mary and St. Jude Episcopal Church of Northeast Harbor has awarded Families First Community Center an Outreach Fund Grant of $4,000.
The Stroud Fund has granted these funds toward the heat pumps for the home, making the facility more energy-efficient and reducing heating costs.
In addition, the organization has received other recent grants from The Home Depot Foundation for $3,000 and The Unity Foundation for $250.
Families First Community Center is building a nearly 5,000-square-foot addition onto an existing older Victorian home, located at 41 North St. in Ellsworth Falls.
The completed building will include individual apartments, with shared common space, to accommodate six homeless families with children.
The nonprofit group also will have a licensed childcare and classrooms on site. The center will utilize these facilities to provide ongoing educational outreach support, which will be available to anyone in Hancock County.
