ELLSWORTH — A public hearing on a proposed 19-turbine wind farm in Township 16 will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 16 and 17, at the Ramada Inn in Ellsworth.
The Maine Land Use Regulation Commission is hosting the hearing as it reviews the permit application for the project proposed by Blue Sky East, a subsidiary of major Boston-based wind developer First Wind.
Blue Sky East wants to build a $78.5-million wind development on Bull Hill and Heifer Hill in T16. The project would include installation of nineteen 1.8-megawatt Vestas wind turbines. The project also would include access to the turbines using new and existing roads, an underground power collection system, a new substation, an operations and maintenance building and up to four meteorological towers.
Power from the project would connect directly from the new substation to existing Bangor Hydro Line 66.
Copies of the permit application are available at the Hancock County Commissioners office at 50 State St. in Ellsworth or online at www.maine.gov/doc/lurc/projects/Windpower/FirstWind/BlueSkyEast/BlueSkyEast.html.
