BAR HARBOR — College of the Atlantic President David Hales has been tapped as a “planet panelist” for the Washington Post.
He has been asked to join other national experts in an ongoing conversation about climate issues on the newspaper’s website, www.washingtonpost.com.
“Negotiate as if the quality of our children’s lives depended on the outcome … for the simple reason that it does,” he wrote in a recent posting.
In 2007, College of the Atlantic became the first higher education institution in the United States to achieve carbon neutrality. COA continues to emphasize avoiding and reducing emissions. “All of our electricity now comes from renewable sources, and we have begun the process of shifting our heating to renewable sources as well,” noted Mr. Hales.
