BUCKSPORT — Governor Paul LePage has appointed Bucksport Town Manager Susan Lessard to the Maine Board of Environmental Protection.
Lessard announced the news at the Jan. 25 Bucksport Town Council meeting.
“The Environment and Natural Resources Committee yesterday approved the nomination from the Governor and the Senate voted to confirm the nomination today,” Lessard said Thursday night.
Former Governor John Baldacci had appointed Lessard to the board in 2007. Lessard served until 2015.
“The responsibilities of the board have been reduced through legislative action and deal now primarily with licensing appeals of the DEP, major substantive rulemaking and licensing of projects of statewide significance,” Lessard said.
The town manager advised the council that it would require the same amount of time she had been devoting to the Municipal Review Committee Board.
“Since there is a conflict of interest, I will be resigning from that board,” Lessard said.
The council congratulated Lessard and several residents attending the meeting applauded.
