Ellsworth Police Log Week of Jan. 3



ELLSWORTH — A resident reported “two Chinese lanterns floating around his house” on New Year’s Eve, according to a police report of the incident.

“One landed in a tree and the candle went out,” officers wrote, and “the other was not located.”

Sleep advised for disorderly patron

Police responded to the Primavera Inn on New Year’s Day for a report of a man “being loud” in one of the rooms, according to a report.

Officers found the man “laying on the floor and not responding.” Officers entered and determined the man was intoxicated. He was cleared by medical personnel, police wrote, “warned for disorderly conduct and told to go to bed.”

Unwanted contact

Police investigated cases of unwanted contact this week.

On Jan. 1, officers responded to a woman who felt a man was following her.

The man told police he was “conducting other business,” according to a report.

That same day, officers also looked into a case in which a man called Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital “several times” to inquire about a patient but were unable to identify who the man was, according to a report of the incident.

Thefts and other losses

James Avena, 18, of Bar Harbor was summoned on Jan. 2 for reportedly stealing a pair of Converse shoes, according to a police report.

Police spoke with a local resident after noticing a “broken mailbox and mail scattered in the roadway,” according to a report made on Dec. 31.

Several days later, on Jan. 4, a local business owner reported that his mailbox had been hit during the snowstorm on Dec. 29, according to a police report.

Officers are investigating a theft reported by staff at Renys on Jan. 4 that allegedly occurred on Dec. 19.

Arrests

Shawn Scott, 44, of Southwest Harbor was arrested on charges of violation of conditions of release and unlawful possession of a Schedule Z drug after police received a complaint of “someone driving a yellow pickup erratically” on Dec. 31, according to a police report of the incident.

Jennifer Hunt, 43, of Passadumkeag was arrested and summoned on charges of unlawful possession of a Schedule W drug, Schedule Z drug, use of drug paraphernalia and violation of conditions of release.

Matthew Smart, 39, of Southwest Harbor was arrested on a probation hold following a probation check on Dec. 31, according to a police report.

Smart also was charged with unlawful possession of a Schedule Z drug and illegal possession of hypodermic apparatuses.

Roger Brown, 26, of Hancock was arrested on Jan. 1 on a warrant for failure to appear.

Edward Salisbury, 30, of Ellsworth was arrested on Jan. 4 on a warrant out of Penobscot County.

William Brittain, 26, of Lamoine was arrested on Jan. 4 on two warrants for failure to appear.

Summons

Heather Mcintire, 31, of Searsport was charged with operating after suspension following a “contact with officers” on the Bucksport Road on Dec. 31, according to a police report of the incident.

Thomas Walsh, 51, of Brewer was summoned on a charge of driving to endanger on Jan. 4, according to a police report.

Speeding tickets

Joshua Olmsted, 22, of Waldoboro, 44 mph in a 25-mph-zone on the Bucksport Road on Dec. 31.

Jenny-Jo Soucy, 46, of Otis, 48 mph in a 25-mph-zone on the Bucksport Road on Jan. 5.

Jeffrey Gammelin, 68, of Ellsworth 49 mph in a 25-mph-zone on the Bucksport Road on Dec. 31.

Anne Marchini, 33, of Monroe, 34 mph in a 25-mph-zone on the Bucksport Road on Dec. 31.

Cullen Schneider, 38, of Blue Hill, 34 mph in a 25-mph-zone on the Bucksport Road on Dec. 31.

Paul Casey, 48, of North Royalton, Ohio, 51 mph in a 25-mph-zone on the Bucksport Road on Jan. 5.
