BOSTON — The Ellsworth American on Feb. 7 and 8 received 18 awards for excellence in news and advertising from the New England Newspaper & Press Association.
The awards presentations took place at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel as part of the annual New England Newspaper Convention.
The newspaper was recognized in several categories, including first place business section, living section, event section, overall mobile product, advertiser campaign and themed advertiser pages.
Of The American’s annual Overview business section, judges said, “It you ever wanted to create an outstanding business section, this is the one you need to see. Sixty-four pages of everything you’d want to know about Hancock County, Maine.”
The paper also was recognized for its election coverage, editorial page, editorial writing, photography, obituary writing and sports coverage.
The Advertising Department won first-place distinction for the Thank a Police Officer section as well as for an advertiser campaign featuring a lobster.
The American’s sister paper, the Mount Desert Islander, won General Excellence, in addition to a half-dozen other awards.
