Eleven-year-old killed in Washington County crash

EDMUNDS TOWNSHIP — An 11-year-old boy died as a result of a two-vehicle crash on Route 1 near the intersection of Tide Mills Road Jan. 26, the Maine State Police reported.

Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss said the identity of the people involved were not being released until the crash report was done. However, Moss did confirm that the deceased boy is Ashton Ross. Ross is the son of Joel and Lacee Ross of Lubec.

The accident occurred when a motorist lost control of his car, a 2006 Buick Lucerne, which skidded across the roadway of Route 1 and was struck by an oncoming vehicle — a 2010 Toyota Prius, police said.

The boy was a passenger in the backseat of the Prius and he died at the scene, police reported. The driver of the Prius was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Buick was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The area of Route 1 and Tide Mills Road was shut down for several hours.

Downeast Ambulance Service and the Whiting Fire Department assisted with the crash. Several Washington County residents stopped to help.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Ashton’s parents with funeral expenses. To help go to https://gofund.me/dbb9642a.
