Two Principals on the Move in RSU 24

Bill Dove is looking for a new school administrator’s job after resigning as principal at the Mountain View School in Sullivan. His wife, Karen, is still teaching at the elementary school.

ELLSWORTH — Bill Dove, principal of the Mountain View School in Sullivan, resigned June 21 after the Regional School Unit 24 (RSU 24) Board agreed to terms for buying out his remaining one-year contract.

In other action, the board appointed Ellsworth High School Principal Bill Connors the new assistant principal at Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School.

Both principals’ jobs were on the line because their schools were considered low-performing under test targets driven by the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

Traditionally the board renews administrators’ contracts one year ahead of time. This year, Dove was the only administrator whose contract was not continued beyond the next academic year.

Connors also had one year remaining on his contract, but the board opted to remove him as principal at EHS in order to collect federal school improvement grant funding.

The board is applying for such funding, but has no assurances how much, if any, funding it will receive.
