Sumner senior wins Principal’s Award

SULLIVAN — Sumner Memorial High School senior Zackary Coughlan has received this year’s Principal’s Award.

“Throughout his years at Sumner, Zack has distinguished himself as a leader who is revered for the respectful example he sets for his fellow students,” said Sumner Principal Ty Thurlow. “In the classroom, Zack has established himself as a formidable academic student, and on the soccer field he is as fierce a competitor as they come.”

Sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, the award is given annually in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement, leadership and citizenship. The award is presented in more than 100 public and private high schools in Maine

Coughlan, along with Thurlow, will attend an honors luncheon on April 6 where award winners will be presented with individual plaques and ten $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Five of the scholarships are in the name of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, former principals and executive directors of the association. The other five are presented on behalf of the Maine Principal’s Association Scholarship Golf Tournament.
