SULLIVAN — Sumner Memorial High School Principal Ty Thurlow and Assistant Principal Jayme Jones have submitted their resignations. Both resignations take effect June 30.
Regional School Unit 24 Superintendent Michael Eastman confirmed the resignations Monday.
“We certainly wish them the best,” he said, adding that both educators “resigned to seek alternative employment.”
Thurlow, who was named Sumner’s principal in 2016, was slated to lead the Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus, the grades 6-through-12 school under construction behind the current high school. Eastman said school administrators were figuring out a plan for whomever is hired as the next principal to transition over to the combined school.
Before taking on the job at Sumner, Thurlow’s resume included being the principal at Fort Street Elementary School and athletic director at Central Aroostook Junior/Senior High School, both in Mars Hill. He earned his master’s in educational administration and his undergraduate degree from the University of Maine at Farmington.
Thurlow did not respond to requests for comment regarding his departure.
Jones was hired to her post as assistant principal this school year. The American was unable to reach her for comment by press time.
