SULLIVAN — The Maine Arts Commission is calling on Maine artists to submit proposals for artwork to beautify the future Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus, which will include a middle and high school in Sullivan.
The total project budget for art is $44,850, awarded as part of the state’s percent for art program. Established by law in 1979, percent for art decrees that at least 1 percent of construction funds for state-funded building projects be used for artwork for public areas. The submission deadline is Sept. 30.
The artwork will be installed in the summer of 2022. According to the prospectus, proposals should respond to the area’s rich marine history, and/or the industrial, land-based trades in the area, including granite quarrying and forestry.
