CASTINE — An Ellsworth man was one of nine Maine Maritime Academy students named as a Scheel Scholar.
Thomas C. Perkins, Class of 2014, a vessel operations and technology major, received the designation during MMA’s “Celebration of Achievement” ceremony Nov. 7.
The annual event honors the academic accomplishments of students and the service of trustees, faculty and alumni.
The late Henry Scheel of Rockport was a naval architect and yacht designer.
In 1994, Scheel left funds to MMA to permanently endow scholarships for students who best exemplify intellectual curiosity and achievement.
