DEER ISLE — Forty-eight seniors from Deer Isle-Stonington High School are expected to receive diplomas at graduation ceremonies June 6.
Selected for their outstanding academic achievement, the Honor Parts for the Class of 2010 will deliver keynote speeches at graduation.
Layla Eaton, valedictorian, is the daughter of Tony and Nancy Eaton of Deer Isle.
A four-year member of the tennis and cheering teams, Eaton has been captain of the cheering squad the past two years. She has been a member of the math team, National Honor Society, Operation Breaking Stereotypes and Peer Support.
For the past two years, she has served as a student representative on the CSD School Committee.
Eaton plans to attend Bowdoin College next fall, where she hopes to study biology in pursuit of a career in medicine.
Jan Merritt, salutatorian, is the daughter of Marvin and Brenda Merritt of Deer Isle. She has been a member of Peer Support, the National Honor Society and Student Council.
She also has participated in the math team and cheering. She intends to enroll in the Honors College of the University of Maine at Orono where she will major in nursing.
Hannah Siebert, first essayist, is the daughter of Terrance and Susan Siebert of Deer Isle.
She played on the softball and basketball teams for four years, and captained the basketball team this year. She has been a member of Peer Support, National Honor Society and Operation Breaking Stereotypes.
Although her college destination is undecided, Siebert is considering the University of Maine and several schools in Boston. She plans to study international studies or Spanish.
Mariah Judkins, second essayist, is the daughter of Warren and Heidi Judkins of Deer Isle.
She has been a member of the math team and was team manager of the basketball team her junior year.
A frequent volunteer at the Island Nursing Home, Judkins plans on majoring in nursing at Husson University.
