GSA announces honor parts recipients May 21, 2018 on Education, News Eliza Grace Broughton BLUE HILL — George Stevens Academy will hold commencement exercises for the Class of 2018 on Sunday, June 10, at 1 p.m. on the school lawn. The valedictorian is Eliza Grace Broughton, the daughter of Matt Broughton of Blue Hill and Jen and Sam Winter of Ellsworth. Broughton participated in cross-country, outdoor track and indoor track and played in band. Broughton has attended Blue Hill Peninsula Summer Track; studied viola, guitar and oboe; volunteered at Silent Sidekicks; and worked at El El Frijoles. Broughton was the recipient of the Williams College Book Award, and was captain of both the cross-country and track teams. The valedictorian aspires to hike the Appalachian Trail, run a marathon and travel and explore the world. She will attend Middlebury College to study psychology. Maira Vandiver Salutatorian Maira Vandiver is the daughter of Marianne and David Vandiver of Penobscot. Vandiver was a member of Planet Pan, Drama Club and the Gender Sexuality Alliance. She has taught Rhythm Rockets and Improv Youth Theater. She won State All Cast Awards and received the University of Rochester Book Award. She will be attending Guilford College to study theater and community and justice. Yian “Albert” Zhang First Honor Essayist Yian “Albert” Zhang is the son of Dingfeng Zhang and Weihong Lu of Shanghai, China. He was a member of the cross-country and track teams, the chess club and band. Zhang will attend McGill University to study physics. He hopes to become a writer and a poet. Ellie Gellerson Second Honor Essayist Ellie Frances Gellerson is the daughter of Tera and Todd Gellerson of Blue Hill. Gellerson was a member of the swim team. She received the Phi Beta Kappa Book Award. She hopes to pursue a master’s degree in fisheries and aquaculture, or a Ph.D. in oceanography. Gellerson will attend Maine Maritime Academy to study marine science.
