BAR HARBOR — Parents beamed and cameras flashed as the 109 members of the Mount Desert Island High School class of 2013 received their diplomas Sunday afternoon in the Bernard Parady Gymnasium.
It was the school’s forty-fifth commencement ceremony.
Commencement speaker, Christiane Cullens, urged the graduates to question everything as they go through life and to do it without shame.
“Engage every personal and cultural bias,” she said. “Walk through each experience with eyes wide open. Trust what you know to be true.”
This was the last commencement ceremony at MDI High for principal Matthew Janger, who has accepted the job as principal of a high school in Arlington, Mass.
Salutatorian Keegan McKim noted that Dr. Janger and the class of 2013 arrived at the school together and are leaving together. He wished the best for all of them.
