Girl wins school spelling and geography bees

ELLSWORTH — Last week, Noe Burmeister won the Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School spelling bee.

In an impressive follow-up performance this week, the eighth-grader was the champion in the school’s National Geographic Bee.

“We’ve never had the same student win both competitions,” said Middle School Principal Jim Newett.

Noe will go on to compete in the Hancock County Spelling Bee scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m. at Hancock Grammar School.

On Friday, she took the online test to qualify for the state-level National Geography Bee.

Noe is the daughter of Daryl and Pilar Burmeister.
