Deer Isle-Stonington honor parts announced



Orly Vaughn

DEER ISLE — The Deer Isle- Stonington High School Class of 2018 will hold commencement exercises on Sunday, June 10, at 1 p.m. in the school gym.

Orly Marie Vaughn, the daughter of Amy and Andrew Vaughn of Little Deer Isle, is valedictorian.

Vaughn plans to study sociology at Davidson College in North Carolina.

Her high school activities included varsity basketball, varsity soccer and varsity tennis.

Vaughn is a member of the National Honor Society. She participated in Peer Support and was on the chess team. She received a Maine Principals Award.

Ennis Marshall

Ennis Wedgwood Marshall is salutatorian.

Marshall is the son of Cathy and Geoffrey Marshall of Little Deer Isle.

Marshall plans to attend the University of Maine-Orono to study civil engineering.

The salutatorian’s high school activities included varsity tennis, drama team and the math team. He was also class treasurer all four years.

Marshall is a member of the National Honor Society and president of the society at Deer Isle-Stonington High School this year.

Marshall also participated in Odyssey of the Mind and band and pep band.

Brendan Penfold

Brendan William Penfold is first honor essayist.

Penfold is the son of Mary and Richard Penfold of Deer Isle.

Penfold plans to study engineering at Swarthmore College.

Penfold’s high school activities have included cross-country team, including serving as captain, and Cross-country Class C State runner-up.

Penfold also ran outdoor track and was on the chess team and math team. He was the Student Council representative to the School Board; a band member; a National Honor Society member and a National Merit Scholar.

Madison Eaton

Second Honor Essayist is Madison Paige Eaton, the daughter of Patricia Eaton of Stonington.

Eaton plans to study nursing at the University of Maine-Orono.

Eaton’s high school activities have included varsity tennis, Student Council, being a student mentor and senior class president.
