Deer Isle-Stonington High School announces graduation honor parts



DEER ISLE — Deer Isle-Stonington High School has announced the graduation honor parts for the Class of 2020.

The valedictorian is Eliza Borntraeger, daughter of Henry Borntraeger of Deer Isle and Anne Woodcock of Kenduskeag.

Borntraeger has been a member of Student Council for four years, the math team and National Honor Society for three years and an active member of the theater program. She has been a student representative on the Friends of the REACH Steering Committee for three years and a member of the International Thespian Society. As a junior, she received the Phi Beta Kappa Award. Borntraeger plans to attend Pomona College in Claremont, Calif., to study environmental analysis or mathematics.

The salutatorian is Benjamin Penfold, son of Mary and Richard Penfold of Deer Isle.

Penfold has been a member of Student Council and the National Honor Society. He has participated in tennis, cross-country, theater, math team, pep band and chess team. He has received the Williams College Book Award, the Daughters of the American Revolution Award and the MPA Principal’s Award. Penfold plans to attend Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., in the fall.

The first honor essayist is Ella Marshall, daughter of Cathy and Geoff Marshall of Little Deer Isle. Marshall has been a member of National Honor Society for three years and was elected president of NHS her junior year. She has been a member of the Student Council for four years. She has participated in cross-country, soccer, basketball, softball, tennis, and she also managed softball. Marshall has been involved in band, district band festivals, pep band, math team and theater and drama competitions. She has been involved with yearbook and been class president. Marshall plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono in the fall.

The second honor essayist is Brienna Limeburner, daughter of Yvonne and Cory Limeburner of Brooksville. Limeburner has been a member of the National Honor Society. She has been involved in basketball and softball and worked on the yearbook. Limeburner plans to work after graduation.
