ELLSWORTH — An ambitious schedule is in place to find a “transformational” principal for Sumner Memorial High School with the hope a candidate might be nominated in time for the May 18 School Board meeting.
The Sumner Principal Search Advisory Committee has scheduled a meeting May 6 to prepare for interviewing candidates.
Interviews are then scheduled May 8, May 13 and May 15. A final meeting of the committee has been tentatively scheduled for May 17.
The Regional School Unit 24 (RSU 24) Board opted to replace Sumner Principal Mike Eastman in order to qualify for a share of $9 million in federal School Improvement Grant funding.
The school became eligible for extra help after being listed as one of 10 consistently low-performing schools in the state.
Eastman will become principal at the Peninsula School in the Gouldsboro village of Prospect Harbor.
Superintendent Bill Webster said Tuesday there are about 15 candidates for the Sumner principal’s position.
