Bucksport High School honor parts announced May 17, 2018 on Education, News Danny Bunker BUCKSPORT — The Bucksport High School Class of 2018 will hold commencement exercises on Friday, June 8, at 6 p.m. in the school gym. Danny Bunker, son of Timothy and Elizabeth Bunker, is valedictorian. He is graduating with a 103.7 grade point average. Bunker will attend the University of Maine at Orono to major in mechanical engineering. Bunker has demonstrated academic excellence by earning the following awards: Valedictorian; MPA Principal’s Award; class president; Phi Beta Kappa Award; Daughters of the American Revolution U.S. History Award; PVC Scholar – Athlete Award and High/Highest Honors. The valedictorian’s extracurricular activities include Class president; School Board representative; National Honor Society; Student Leadership Team; Dirigo Boys’ State; Math Team; Outing Club; Varsity Soccer; Varsity Indoor Track; Varsity Outdoor Track and Robotics Team. Bunker has been the captain of the track team, the soccer team and the robotics team. MaKenzie Smith The salutatorian is MaKenzie Smith, daughter of Mark and Denise Smith. Smith is graduating with a 100.2 grade point average. The salutatorian will attend Husson University to earn an MBA in accounting. Smith has demonstrated academic excellence by earning the following awards: Class treasurer and Highest Honors. Smith’s extracurricular activities include National Honor Society; Student Council; Student Leadership Team; Student Mentor; Maine Envirothon Team; soccer; varsity softball and varsity basketball. Smith was captain of both the soccer and softball teams her senior year. First Honor Essayist Chase Carmichael is son of Robert and Shelly Carmichael and is graduating with a 99 grade point average. Chase Carmichael Carmichael will attend the University of Maine to major in chemical engineering. Carmichael has earned the following awards: Class vice president; Williams College Book Awards Recipient; Academic Excellence in Honors World Studies; Academic Excellence in Psychology; Academic Excellence in Honors Algebra II; Student of the Month, and Highest Honors. Carmichael’s extracurricular activities include: School Board representative; National Honor Society; Student Council; Student Leadership Team; Math Team; varsity football; varsity baseball and varsity basketball. Carmichael has been the captain of all three teams. Second Honor Essayist, Darian Jellison, the daughter of Ralph and Kathleen Jellison, is graduating with a 98.4 grade point average. Darian Jellison Jellison will attend Eastern Maine Community College to major in liberal studies. Jellison has demonstrated academic excellence by earning the following awards: Second honors essayist; the Rockefeller Leadership Award; Highest Honors; Outstanding Achievement in Algebra II; Outstanding Achievement in Conceptual Physics; Outstanding Achievement in Honors U.S. History, and Outstanding Achievement in Honors Biology. Jellison’s extracurricular activities include: National Honors Society; Class Secretary; Student Council; Student Leadership Team; Outing Club; Prom Committee; varsity soccer; varsity basketball; unified basketball and varsity Softball. The second honor essayist has been the captain of both the soccer and softball teams.
