ELLSWORTH — A local man was reportedly unhurt after he crashed his vehicle while allegedly driving drunk and fleeing from police late last week.
Police said Nelson Soto Aviles, 50, of Ellsworth was headed south on Route 1A around 7 p.m. Friday night when Sgt. Shawn Willey attempted to stop him for speeding.
A police report indicates Willey clocked Aviles traveling at 77 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone.
Aviles “attempted to flee and lost control of the vehicle while attempting to make a right turn into a driveway,” according to the police report.
The 1997 Lexus SUV Aviles was driving went into a ditch and then hit a tree. Aviles reportedly “attempted to back up” after hitting the tree “but stopped once a cruiser was behind the vehicle.”
Aviles was arrested and charged with OUI and failure to stop for a police officer. He also was issued a speeding ticket.
Aviles was reportedly uninjured, and the vehicle he was driving sustained only minor damage.
