ELLSWORTH — The Down East Family YMCA’s Annual Meeting and Awards Night will be held on Wednesday, April 25, at the Moore Community Center.
The evening is principally a shareholder’s report for the community. The Y releases its financial statement from the previous year and recognizes the individuals who have supported the institution.
The doors will open at 6 p.m., with the dinner beginning at 6:30. The meeting will begin at 7 with a chairman’s report from Board Chairman Joe Domagala.
Outgoing board members will be recognized followed by award winners. The following awards are handed out each year:
The Teddy Saunders Award, presented to a local youth who is a well-rounded athlete who exhibits exceptional sportsmanship, leadership qualities and role model characteristics. This year’s recipients are Katelynn Bagley, Chris Barnes, Austin Baron and Ava Sealander. Katelynn is the daughter of Corey and Stacey Bagley. Chris is the son of Dino and Justice Barnes. Austin is the son of Danny and Karen Baron. Ava is the daughter of Mike and Robyn Sealander. Katelynn, Chris and Austin are seniors at Ellsworth High School and Ava is a senior at George Stevens Academy
The Service to Youth Award was established to honor an individual whose efforts result in a positive outcome for youth in the community. This year’s recipient is Chris Popper. Popper is the director of sports programming and senior account executive at Townsquare Media.
The Maralyn “Pete” Turnbull Volunteer of the Year Award is given to the individual who selflessly dedicates many hours of volunteer service to the organization. This year’s recipient is Cynthia Cullinane. Cynthia is being recognized for her volunteerism through the DEFY Swim Team as a longtime swim meet official.
Joe Domagala, Melanson & Heath, will be recognized for his service as board chairman. Jeff Dalrymple, Machias Savings Bank, will be introduced as the new chairman of the board. Stephen Fay, Ellsworth American, and Jeff Buzzell, Buzzell Insurance, will be recognized for their service to the board. Fay and Buzzell are retiring. Fay has served on the board since 1998 and served as chairman two times. Buzzell has served on the board since 2005 and has served as chairman once.
