DEER ISLE – As the Maine Department of Transportation approaches the end of a summer construction project on the Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge, the paving contractor has requested several full closures of the bridge to ensure the safety of workers. Maine DOT is accommodating this request and closing the bridge for two four-hour periods this week.
The bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, to 1 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, and from 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, to 1 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20. Emergency vehicles will still be allowed to use the bridge during these times.
The Maine DOT expects one more full bridge closure in the coming weeks and will issue another press release when there are more details. Paving work accomplished during these bridge closures will help move this project closer to full completion and ensure the safety of work crews and contracting partners while the work is being done.
