BAR HARBOR — Laptop computers in three police cruisers, three ambulances, and two fire vehicles will be outfitted with licenses to access the Crimestar data system, following the award of a bid of $26,000 to Crimestar Corporation for the service.
The purchase is being made as part of a Department of Homeland Security grant of $647,000 given to the town in 2008, and includes a 25 percent match on behalf of the town.
The software licensing agreement comes on the heels of a recent $69,000 purchase of a radio frequency system that will allow emergency vehicles and eventually public works vehicles to access the Internet and their own in-house networks in real time from anywhere in town.
