ELLSWORTH — A major thoroughfare was temporarily closed and a Franklin woman charged in connection with a crash on Route 1A the morning of Jan. 27, police reported.
The crash occurred at 9:14 a.m. when a northbound pickup truck crossed the centerline and struck a southbound dump truck, which lost control, spun, crossed the roadway and went down an embankment, police said. Meanwhile, the pickup truck continued northbound and forced a second car off the road and into a ditch before stopping, police said.
Lacy Mae Morrill, 23, of Franklin was operating the pickup truck, a 2019 Toyota Tundra. Officers charged Morrill with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant-drugs, driving to endanger and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.
The dump truck was operated by Thomas Hansen, 51, of Corinth, who was injured and transported via ambulance to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, police reported.
Morrill was not injured, police said.
Route 1A was shut down for approximately 2.5 hours while a tow company removed the dump truck.
The Ellsworth Fire Department and the Maine State Police assisted.
