County Cheering Champs



BANGOR — Three Hancock County cheering squads placed first and two more were runners-up at the recent State Elementary and Junior High Cheering Invitational at the Bangor Auditorium.

In the Superstars 3 Division, the Lamoine Lions took top honors — for the ninth consecutive year.

A squad from the Beech Hill School in Otis placed sixth.

In the Superstars 2 Division, the Ellsworth Middle School Falcons, coached by Jane Stackpole and Kelli Mitchell, took top honors with 124.3 points.

The Cave Hill Bears from Eastbrook, with just four cheerleaders, finishing as runners-up, just three points behind Ellsworth.

Also competing in Superstars 2 were Trenton, placing fifth, and Hancock, placing ninth.

In the Superstars 1 Division, a squad from Deer Isle-Stonington finished as runner-up with 122.9 points, just 1.2 points behind a team from the Mount Blue Middle School.

In the Northern Stars Division at the elementary school level, the Union 96 cheerleaders took top honors, besting four other teams, with a score of 87.7.
