County administrator’s contract extended

ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County Commissioners May 1 voted unanimously to extend County Administrator Scott Adkins’ contract to Dec. 31, 2018.

Adkins’ employment contract was to expire Wednesday, May 16. He’s been on the job since May 2016. His annual salary is $79,170.

The board also voted 2-1 to give Adkins a one-time payment of $7,500 for his work in straightening out the county’s finances, said Commissioner Bill Clark.

Clark and Commissioner Percy “Joe” Brown voted in favor of the payment. Chairman Antonio Blasi was opposed.

Before taking the Hancock County post, Adkins had been finance director for Penobscot County for several years.

“The books were in tough shape,” Clark said.

“He’s kept them in shape and he’s supervising the Finance Department,” Clark said. “It’s partly in recognition of the work he’s done.”

The commissioners extended Adkins’ contract through December because the board wanted to get his contract consistent with the budget year, Clark said. The county’s fiscal year runs Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.
