Vehicle overturns in Hancock

HANCOCK — First responders rushed to the scene of a Hancock accident Friday afternoon after initial reports indicated children might be trapped inside the overturned vehicle.

The crash, which occurred on the Eastside Road near the intersection with Russell Cove Road involved a single vehicle, which flipped over and went off the road, hitting a mailbox and several trees.

“It was initially called in at 1:55 p.m. with a report of entrapment in the vehicle,” said Hancock Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Holmes. Toys flung from the vehicle during the crash may have been responsible for initial reports that children were trapped inside.

The driver was taken to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth to be checked out for possible injuries. Sullivan Fire/Rescue, Maine State Police and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
