Three people charged with trafficking crack in Machias

MACHIAS — Maine Drug Enforcement agents arrested three people in Machias Thursday night and charged them with selling crack cocaine.

Police said the arrests followed an investigation into the acquisition of drugs in New York City for distribution in Hancock and Washington counties.

MDEA agents assigned to the Downeast District Task Force, based in Ellsworth, recently purchased drugs from suspects at a multi-unit apartment building on Main Street in Machias, according to police.

Around 9 Thursday night, MDEA agents, assisted by deputy sheriffs and state troopers, served a search warrant on that apartment and seized approximately 64 grams of cocaine base (crack) and over $13,000 in cash.

David Dowling, 44, and Angela Ward, 36, both of Machias, and Jeffrey Sherrills, 30, of New York, N.Y., were arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail. All are charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in cocaine base. Bail for each was set at $250,000 cash.
