Three injured in Castine Road crash

ELLSWORTH — Three people were injured on Aug. 17 in a head-on collision between a truck and a Volvo on the Castine Road, according to a press release from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Letha Wood, 74, was traveling north when the Volvo she was driving was hit by a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 32-year-old Felishia Taylor of Orland.

Taylor’s truck was reportedly heading south on the Castine Road when it left the roadway, and traveled onto the southbound shoulder.

Police said Taylor lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a pedestrian on the shoulder. It then re-entered the roadway, skidded across the southbound travel lane and into the northbound travel lane, where it hit the car driven by Wood.

Taylor sustained serious but non life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by ambulance.

Wood and her passenger, 77-year-old Joan Ames of New Hampshire, both sustained minor injuries and were transported to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast by ambulance.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
