The Case of the Collectible Coins Appears To Be Solved

ELLSWORTH – The sheriff’s department believes the Nov. 28 theft of collectible coins valued at nearly $4,500 has been solved with a summons issued to a Tremont man.

Detective Alan Brown summoned Nathan Harkins, 28, on a theft charge on Jan. 4. Harkins is accused of taking the coins from a home in Tremont. No coins have been recovered, Brown said.

A 39-year-old Brooklin man was arrested Saturday on a warrant to revoke his post-conviction bail. According to Detective Steve McFarland, Carl Angell’s bail was revoked “based on public threats and acts of disorderly conduct” at two Ellsworth businesses on Friday.

The Surry Store (the January 12th issue of The American misidentified the store as the Surry General Store.  It was actually the Surry Store.  The American regrets the error and apologizes to the Surry General Store) was issued an administrative violation Jan. 4 as a result of a detail by the Hancock County Alcohol Enforcement Team. The store reportedly sold alcohol to a minor.

A Brooksville man reported Saturday the theft of a 35-horsepower Johnson outboard motor.

A deer ran Friday onto the Cape Rosier Road in Brooksville and into a 2010 Chevrolet driven by Kenton Nevells, 30, of Brooksville. The vehicle sustained about $2,500 damage.

Shawn Evans, 27, of Orland was arrested Friday on a charge of violating his bail conditions by allegedly being in possession of alcohol.

A 2004 Dodge pickup, driven by Carlos Garcia, 24, of Deer Isle is considered a total loss after it drifted off the Sunshine Road in Deer Isle Jan. 4 and hit some trees.

A traffic stop for an expired inspection sticker led to the Jan. 3 arrest of a Bucksport man.

Devon Ryder, 26, was arrested on two outstanding warrants charging him with failure to pay fines. Ryder additionally was summoned on a charge of operating without a license.

Randy Eldridge, 56, of Orland was arrested Jan. 3 on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court.

Jason Levandoski, 19, of Orland was summoned Jan. 3 on theft and criminal mischief charges in connection with a theft at a home in Orland.

Several small items were taken during the burglary of a garage in Hancock that was reported Jan. 3.

Victoria Varnum, 26, of Sedgwick was summoned Jan. 3 on an assault charge after a Brooklin woman reported Varnum had assaulted her.
