Teens charged following burglary complaint

NORTHEAST HARBOR — Two juveniles were summonsed early Tuesday after police responded to the report of a burglary at a home in Northeast Harbor.

According to Officer Ryan Lawson, the burglars fled the scene after being surprised by the homeowner, who had been alerted by the commotion. Police followed footprints in the snow to a nearby home where an underage drinking party was in progress, the officer said.

Most of the partygoers had left by the time police arrived but two boys from Mount Desert, ages 16 and 17, were summonsed on charges of possessing liquor by consumption. An investigation into the incident is underway and Officer Lawson said other charges, including burglary, are pending.

One theory, Officer Lawson said, is that the burglary suspects mistook the home they entered for the home where the party was underway.
