Stonington death ruled a suicide

STONINGTON — The Maine State Police said the death of a Stonington man found inside his home Monday was a suicide.

Spokesman Steve McCausland said the determination was made Tuesday in the death of Matthew Billings, who was 41.

“Investigators spent Monday night and most of Tuesday at Billings’ home and told his relatives late today of their findings,” McCausland said Tuesday night.

Police initially found the death suspicious and had evidence technicians at Billings’ residence. The Maine Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Tuesday morning, the spokesman said.
