UPDATE: Authorities Identify Body Found in Penobscot River

VERONA ISLAND — Authorities have identified a body found floating in the Penobscot River in Verona Island June 24 as that of a missing Veazie man, Ryan Lamontagne, according to Veazie Police Chief Mark Leonard.

Lamontagne, 21 years old, was reported missing on Jan. 4, 2020, Leonard said. “At this time the death does not appear suspicious.”

“The Veazie Police Department sends our condolences to the family and friends of Ryan,” stated Leonard in a press release. “We were able to bring a conclusion to this investigation with the assistance of the Bangor Police Department, Maine State Police, Marine Patrol, Bucksport Public Safety, Medical Examiner’s Office, and The Maine State Police Crime Lab.”

Maine State Police Trooper Dana Austin had been working with the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office to figure out the identity of the body, police said.

Austin was assisted by Cpl. Christopher Smith, the Maine Marine Patrol, the Bucksport Police Department, the Bucksport Fire Department and the Bangor Police Department.
