Police asked to erect “force field”

ELLSWORTH — Police officers are called upon every day to protect and serve the citizens in their communities.

It’s not every day, however, that they are asked to perform an act typically associated with superheroes and science fiction stories.

A woman living on State Street, however, called police on the evening of Aug. 28 to report she was hearing and seeing “strange things … in the air.”

Specifically, the woman said “people in the air are damaging her face,” and she asked police to “put up a force field to keep them away.”

Force fields have appeared in science fiction works and comic books, as well as movies and TV shows such as Star Trek.

Officers were advised the subject has some mental health issues, and a relative of the woman was contacted by police.
