Pedestrian hit by pickup truck avoids serious injury

ELLSWORTH — A local woman escaped serious injury Friday afternoon when she was struck by a pickup truck while walking.

Police said Sherry Fish, 63, of Ellsworth was walking on the sidewalk along High Street near Machias Savings Bank and Circle K around 2:15 p.m. Friday.

Tyler A. Gilbert, 20, of Ellsworth was waiting to pull out onto High Street from Edgewood Way, which connects with High Street between those two businesses. Gilbert was driving a 2013 Nissan pickup truck owned by O’Reilly Automotive Stores Inc.

Police said Fish walked in front of the truck as Gilbert went to pull out onto High Street, and the vehicle made contact with her.

Fish told police she had a possible injury to her arms. She did not require transport by ambulance, according to a police report.
