New York Woman Faces Crack Cocaine Charge

Ana De Los Santos

VERONA – A New York City woman who is leasing a home on Verona Island was arrested Thursday on a drug trafficking charge.

Ana De Los Santos, 23, was arrested on a charge of class A aggravated trafficking in cocaine base, which is better known as crack cocaine

According to Commander Darrell Crandall of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA), the arrest stems from the investigation into a July 22 heroin trafficking arrest in Orrington. In that incident, MDEA agents executed a search warrant at the rented home of David Ireland, 46, where agents seized a little more than five grams of heroin and charged him with trafficking in the drug.

Using information gained from that arrest, agents on July 23 executed a search warrant at 45 West Side Drive in Verona Island, where they seized more than 60 grams of crack cocaine and a small-caliber handgun, Crandall said. The street value of the drug is estimated at $6,600.

De Los Santos was not at home during the search. She was arrested as she returned to the residence on Thursday, Crandall said.

Following her arrest, De Los Santos was taken to the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth where, as of Friday afternoon, she remained in custody. Her bail has been set at $5,000.
