Man accused of assaulting pregnant woman



ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says a man is in custody after allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend in Surry the evening of Wednesday, July 22.

Deputy Dan Harlan said the woman was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Deputies located the man early Thursday morning, according to Lt. Tim Cote.

Deputy Dakota Dupuis arrested Derrick E. Maxie, 33, of Surry on charges of elevated aggravated assault on a pregnant woman, criminal restraint and obstructing the report of a crime.

Maxie is scheduled for arraignment Friday afternoon, Cote said.
