Maine State Police Log Week of May 28



ELLSWORTH — A traffic stop in Hancock May 18 led to discovery of methamphetamine on the motorist and in her vehicle along with $5,959 in cash, the Maine State Police reported.

Trooper Dana Austin stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of a Route 1 business for an alleged traffic violation. As a result of his investigation, Austin arrested Kimberly Gravelle, 37, of Houlton on charges of unlawful drug possession, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and operating after suspension.

“Kimberly was found to have methamphetamine on her person and a further search of her vehicle located more methamphetamine inside of it,” police said. “Also located were empty drug baggies that were going to be used for the sale of illegal drugs. Approximately 9 grams of methamphetamine was located and also located was $5,959. The money is believed to be from drug proceeds.”

Sgt. Jason Sattler and Troopers Gavin Endre and Joshua Lander assisted.

More arrests

Trooper Caleb McGary arrested a man from Levant and Florida on charges of OUI and criminal speed after a traffic stop in Hancock Sunday.

Joseph Meek, 35, was allegedly traveling 103 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone, police said.

Trooper Owen Reed and the Maine Warden Service assisted.

A stop for a traffic violation in Ellsworth May 17 led to a chase and subsequent arrest, police said.

Austin tried to stop a motorcycle, which sped away at a high rate of speed and “attempted to avoid being stopped,” police said. The trooper found the motorcycle abandoned behind an apartment building and found the operator shortly after.

Jacob Hale, 25, of Hancock was arrested on charges of failure to stop for an officer, operating without a driver’s license and driving to endanger. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Ellsworth Police Department assisted.

A Brooklin man was arrested after Cpl. Daniel Ryan attempted to stop a vehicle on Route 15 in Penobscot May 21 for speeding 82 miles per hour in a 50-mph zone, police reported. The vehicle failed to stop and then a chase ensued.

“After approximately five miles, the driver pulled over on Route 1 just east of the Orland Big Apple,” police said.

Ryan arrested the motorist, Seth Rioux, 32, on charges of eluding an officer and criminal speed.

Missing children

Trooper Miles Carpenter responded to Roque Bluffs Friday for the report of a lost 12-year-old child. The child was located shortly after arrival, police said. The child had gone for a walk and had gotten turned around in the woods.

Cpl. Chris Smith assisted the Washington Sheriff’s Office with searching for a missing youth in Eastbrook May 17. The youth was later located in Washington County.

Burglary

Burglars kicked in a door at a house in the Washington County town of Brookton Saturday. The damage was extensive. The burglars shot BBs through a window, cut some pipes and flooded the basement as well as damaging a furnace, washer, dryer and freezer, police said. Trooper Kim Sawyer is investigating. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft

Smith investigated a theft of “a racing-style” jack off the steps of a residence in Sullivan May 17, police said.
