ELLSWORTH — A Surry man who called for a tow ended up being charged with failing to report an accident.

Trooper Travis Chapman responded to Wharf Road in Surry Aug. 24 after a tow truck driver reported that the vehicle to be towed appeared to have been in an accident, according to police.

Chapman observed damage on the vehicle, which appeared to be valued over $1,000.

Chapman and Sgt. Timothy Varney went to the home of the vehicle’s owner, Dwight Geel, 29, of Surry, and attempted to interview him about the crash.

Geel was uncooperative, police said. He was summoned on a charge of failing to notify of a reportable crash by quickest means.
