Maine State Police Log Week of Aug. 13

ELLSWORTH — The Maine State Police say a Machias man died after a single-vehicle crash on Route 192 in Northfield Friday.

Lt. Rod Charette said the deceased is John Dinsmore, 32.

Dinsmore had been southbound in a 2006 GMC Envoy when the SUV failed to negotiate a left corner, went off the road and rolled.

“Dinsmore was ejected from the vehicle and the vehicle landed on top of him,” Charette said. “He was the lone occupant and was not wearing a seat belt. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.”

Trooper Kim Sawyer is the primary investigator and was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Machias Police Department, Maine Warden Service and Maine Forest Service. The crash remains under investigation.

More accidents

A teenager from Danforth was ejected from a pickup truck in a two-vehicle head-on crash Sunday afternoon on Route 1 in East Machias, police reported.

“It appeared both vehicles at some point crossed the centerline and the crash occurred in the south bound lane,” Charette said.

Erika Pillius, 19, was ejected from a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck and taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Pillius had been a passenger in a truck driven south by Joshua Archer, 19, of East Machias. Archer’s truck went off the road after the collision and rolled over, police said.

The other vehicle, a northbound 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck, was operated by Brandon Norton, 23, of Jonesboro, police said. Two passengers were in Norton’s truck, Kellee Moores, 19, and Alexander Coombs, 19, both of Trenton, police reported.

Impaired operation

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for travelling 107 miles per hour in a posted 45-mph zone on Route 1A in Holden Sunday. As a result of an investigation, Austin arrested Asad Satter, 29, of Bangor on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and speeding 30 miles or more over the limit.

Trooper Blaine Silk summoned Jonathan Sprague, 23, of Milbridge on a charge of operating after suspension Aug. 3 in Cherryfield.
