Maine State Police: Caller Mistakes Cell Phone for Gun

ELLSWORTH — A concerned citizen in Cherryfield called the Maine State Police April 12 to report seeing a man with a gun to his head.

Troopers Jessica Shorey and Andrew Foss responded along with Detective Elmer Farren and Washington County Sheriff’s deputies. It turns out what the caller thought was a gun was actually a cell phone, police said.

Thieves broke into a Franklin woman’s house, forced open a safe and stole $7,000 in cash, police reported. The theft occurred after the woman left the residence for a while to go to town, police said. Trooper Greg Roy is investigating.
