Local man arrested after allegedly “repeatedly” punching girlfriend

ELLSWORTH — Police and County Ambulance responded to Pepper’s Pub on Feb. 14 after a patron called to report an alleged assault taking place outside.

Edgar Pung of Ellsworth was subsequently arrested and charged with domestic violence assault.

Police said the 30-year-old man is reported to have “repeatedly punched” his girlfriend after an argument.

“They had been drinking in Pepper’s Pub; she got upset at the level of intoxication of Mr. Pung and went to sit in the car,” said Police Chief Glenn Moshier.

Pung then reportedly emerged from the pub and the couple began arguing.

“The assault occurred as a result of the argument,” Moshier said.

The unidentified woman was checked by emergency medical technicians at the scene but refused transport to the hospital, Moshier said.
