Letter Scam Reported

GOULDSBORO — An elderly woman called police Aug. 14 to report that she received a letter promising her $2,342,000 in exchange for a $20 transaction fee, police said.

Police said the letter came from a company known as the Financial Acquisition Agency of Miami.

The woman, who lives in the village of Birch Harbor, said the letter stated the funds were non-disbursed but she would be given directions on what to do to get the money if she signed a form and enclosed a $20 check.

Police said they checked the company on the Internet and found numerous reports alleging that the letter was a scam.
