Lamoine man in critical condition following motorcycle crash

TRENTON — The Maine State Police report that a Lamoine man is in critical condition at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center after his motorcycle crossed into an oncoming lane and struck a sport utility vehicle nearly head-on on Route 3 in Trenton Tuesday morning.

Lt. Rod Charette said Bruce Gott, 61, was operating a 2005 Harley Davidson northbound when the bike crossed the centerline and struck a 2012 Ford Explorer driven by Emily Maehrlein, 40, of Cold Spring, N.Y.

First responders initially took Gott to Mount Desert Island Hospital, Charette said. From there, a LifeFlight helicopter flew Gott to the Bangor hospital. Gott sustained serious injuries. He had been wearing a helmet, the state police commander said.

Maehrlein was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation, police said.

Trooper Blaine Silk is the primary investigator and was assisted by several troopers and officers from Bar Harbor Police Department. The Bar Harbor and Trenton fire departments also assisted.
