ELLSWORTH — A city resident was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman and used an ax to destroy a piece of cleaning equipment Sunday evening.
Police were called to a Grant Street residence shortly before 6 p.m. for a report of a domestic dispute “where the male was damaging property with an ax.”
Following an investigation, police arrested 29-year-old Joseph Gallagher and charged him with domestic violence terrorizing and assault.
Detective Dotty Small said Gallagher destroyed a piece of carpet cleaning equipment with the ax, and also allegedly threw a hammer through a window in a camper, breaking the glass.
Small said police also determined Gallagher had assaulted a woman at the residence. She said it appeared alcohol may have been involved.
