Hancock County Sheriff’s Log Week of Nov. 22



ELLSWORTH — Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies handled a variety of accidents involving deer, snow and oncoming cars during the past week.

A pickup truck rolled onto its side after sliding off a snow-covered travel lane of Bayside Road in Trenton Friday, Deputy Luke Gross reported.

Matthew Driscoll, 19, of Trenton was driving a 2000 GMC Sonoma, which sustained a reportable amount of damage, police said.

A vehicle was totaled on Partridge Cove Road in Lamoine Nov 15 after a young motorist swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and overcorrected, Gross said. That maneuver resulted in the first vehicle going off the road, hitting an embankment and rolling over.

Gross said Emily Brown, 16, of Lamoine was driving. No make or model of the vehicle was noted. Brown and her passenger, Allison Brown, 15, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the deputy said.

A car was damaged after striking and killing a deer that had entered the roadway of Douglas Highway in Lamoine Nov. 14, Deputy Jeff McFarland reported.

Jana Steinbarger, 38, of Blue Hill was operating a 2013 Kia Soul, which was able to be driven from the scene, McFarland said.

A car had to be towed after striking a deer in a travel lane of the Airline Road in Aurora Nov. 15, Deputy Brian Archer reported.

Patricia Flores, 38, of Maryland was operating a 2012 Subaru Legacy, Archer said. Flores was not injured. There was no word on the deer.

Theft

A Lamoine resident reported a theft from a mailbox Nov. 15. The U.S. Postal Service has been notified.

Domestic assaults

A Dedham man was arrested after an altercation was investigated in Dedham Friday, Gross said. Police arrested Robert Gray Jr., 33, on charges of domestic violence assault and an outstanding warrant charging failure to appear.

Lt. Corey Bagley summoned Ashley Coulter, 23, of Surry on a charge of domestic violence assault Nov. 15 in Surry.

Alcohol offenses

Detective Franklin Jennings summoned Spencer Snow, 20, of Portland on a charge of illegal possession of liquor by a minor as a result of a well-being check in Castine Nov. 13.

Mental health issues

A Surry woman reported Nov. 14 that her brother, 16, was out of control and yelling at family members. McFarland met with everyone involved and drove the boy to a hospital for a voluntary mental health evaluation.

A Gouldsboro resident with mental health issues reported hearing things at her residence Nov. 14. Bagley advised that police would look into the matter.
