Hancock County Sheriff’s Log Week of July 16

ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office took a call about someone swimming nude at the Blue Hill town dock on July 8. Deputy Chris Sargent is investigating.

Overdose

The Hancock County Regional Communications Center (RCC) on July 1 dispatched Lt. Tim Cote, Deputy Dan Harlan and Deputy Dakota Dupuis to a residence where an Orland woman had overdosed and was unresponsive. Dupuis said the woman was taken to a local hospital and survived.

“Orland Fire and Bucksport EMS Services assisted and were vital in saving the woman’s life,” Dupuis said. “Drug charges are pending.”

Sexual assault

Detective Stephen McFarland is investigating an alleged sexual assault of girl that was reported to him Monday by one of the girl’s parents.

Mental health issue

On Sunday, the RCC received information about a boy who was threatening suicide on social media.

“We located [the boy] at a residence in Deer Isle and I transported him to the hospital for an evaluation,” said Deputy Jeff McFarland.

Noise problem

A Mariaville man went outside and fired his shotgun June 30 after hearing what he thought were gunshots getting nearer to his residence, Dupuis said. The “gunshots” stopped after that.

“I patrolled the area and found a neighbor who had been shooting off fireworks who was equally upset about the complainant firing off the shotgun,” Dupuis said. “Both parties were told to remain inside for the remainder of the night and to not be shooting into the air any further.”

Firearm threatening

Deputy Brian Archer summoned Pamela Stem, 42, of Lamoine on a charge of threatening display of a firearm after investigating a trespassing complaint that led to an altercation in Lamoine July 9, the deputy said.

Cote, Harlan, Dupuis and Deputy Marcus Downes assisted.

Speeding

Brian Hyson, 29, of Bangor was summoned on a charge of criminal speed July 1 on Route 1A in Dedham. “Specifically, Hyson was traveling at 91 mph in the posted 55-mph speed zone,” Dupuis said.

Arrest

A fight between two men and a woman in Orland July 1 led to charges for the woman, Dupuis said.

Lena Cardona, 32, of Orland was arrested on a charge of probation violation and furnishing liquor to a minor, the deputy said.

One of the men was removed from the residence. Harlan assisted.

Vandalism

A Stonington woman reported damage to her vehicle after it had been parked in her driveway all weekend, said Deputy Brian Archer.

Harlan is investigating damage to a window at an Orland woman’s residence that was reported July 2.

Security

Deputies assisted the Ellsworth Police Department by securing the scene of a fight at a State Street business July 8 while officers investigated the incident, said Archer.

Citizen assist

A Nevada woman called the RCC Sunday wanting a deputy to check on her elderly parents who reside in Blue Hill. Deputy Jeff McFarland eventually located the couple at a hospital and notified their daughter.

Deputy Luke Gross checked on the well-being of residents in Castine, Brooklin and Deer Isle July 9. All were fine. Archer also checked on a Trenton resident July 9.

Citizen dispute

Deputy Chris Sargent is investigating a dispute involving several parties on Pertville Road in Sedgwick July 9.

Accidents

A motorcyclist was injured after hitting a deer that wandered into the roadway of North Deer Isle Road in Deer Isle July 9, said Harlan.

Arthur Smallidge, 39, of Ellsworth was northbound when he was ejected from a 2014 Honda motorcycle, Harlan said. Smallidge had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, the deputy said. His motorcycle had to be towed from the scene.

A sport utility vehicle rolled onto its roof after it went off the road and struck a culvert, a rock and several small trees on Caterpillar Hill Road in Brooksville Saturday, Sargent said.

Mercedes Rice, 19, of Bucksport was driving a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, which was a total loss, said Sargent. “Rice received minor injuries,” the deputy said.
