Hancock County Sheriff: Signs of the Times, Political Placards Stolen



ELLSWORTH — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office took two reports of stolen political signs during the past week.  The signs were stolen from private property in Lamoine and Sullivan.

Burglaries

Deputy Luke Gross is investigating burglaries at residences in Franklin and Township 40 that were reported Monday.

Police also are investigating a burglary at a Deer Isle business that occurred overnight Oct. 13-14.

Vandalism

Someone smashed the rear window of a vehicle belonging to a George Stevens Academy teacher during school Monday.

Accidents

A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Douglas Highway and MacQuinn Road Sunday led to charges for both motorists.

The accident occurred when the driver of a car failed to stop and hit the passenger side of a pickup truck before continuing on, police said.

Deborah Hanson, 27, of Blue Hill was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid, which hit a 1995 Toyota Tacoma operated by Jonathan Amnott, 26, of Ellsworth, police reported.

Hanson was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Amnott was charged with operating after suspension.

An officer estimated $2,500 in damage for the car and $1,500 for the truck.

The slushy roads Sunday evening led to a two-car collision in Dedham after a northbound car lost control and slid backward into a southbound car, police reported.

Devin Amnott, 19, of Ellsworth was driving north in a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, which struck a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Kandi Jenkins, 35, police said.

Theft

A thief stole 10 gallons of gas from a Blue Hill man’s vehicle, which was parked in his driveway overnight Monday.

Internet Fraud

A Sullivan woman paid over $600 for health insurance at a Web site and hasn’t gotten a response, deputies said.

Lewis B. Googins, 58, Paducah, Ky., failure to appear.

Matthew R. Peasley, 21, Otis, drug court sanction.

Frank L. Miller Sr., 49, Birch Harbor, drug court sanction.

Sentencings

Sandra J. Robbins, 48, Ellsworth, 10 days for unlawful drug possession.

Jacob E. Gaspar, 20, Deer Isle, 90 days for two counts burglary, attempted theft, stealing drugs, violating conditions of release.

Jacob T. Murphy, 29, Gouldsboro, seven days for domestic violence assault, terrorizing, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant.
