ELLSWORTH — A standoff in Franklin in which the Maine State Police Tactical Team was called to assist resulted in the arrest of a Franklin man, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The incident centered on a domestic disturbance at the residence, said Detective Alan Brown.

Gregory Ray, 55, was arrested on charges of domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

According to Brown, Ray was arrested “after some delay but without incident” after a Franklin woman and her 23-year-old son came to the Sheriff’s Department at 12:55 a.m. Saturday to report the incident, which had just occurred at their residence.

Deputy Jeff McFarland is the primary investigator.

Accidents

A collision on Route 1 in Orland near the Big Apple store May 26 led to two broken arms for a passenger in a car, police reported.

The accident occurred when the driver of a westbound sport utility vehicle tried to turn left into the store and was struck head-on by an eastbound car, Deputy Chris Sargent said.

Jessica Frates, 18, of Bucksport was driving west in a 2001 Ford Explorer, which was struck by a 2001 Subaru Legacy operated by Julia Edelblute, 66, of Bucksport, Sargent said.

A passenger in the car, Barbara Blanchard, broke both arms, Sargent said. Edelblute had neck and chest pain.

Frates suffered an abrasion on her foot and neck pain, the deputy said.

Both vehicles were totaled, Sargent said.

Two cars were totaled on Route 3 in Trenton near Downeast Lobster Co. Friday when one driver rear-ended the other. The other driver was stopped waiting to turn into the restaurant, Deputy Ben Astbury said.

Kathryn Peterson, 23, of Lamoine was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, which was unable to stop in time and struck a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle operated by Tan Yiaoqing, 23, of New Haven, Conn., Astbury said.
